Congrats !!!

Carolina Gold would like to congratulate our very own Executive Director Dwayne Barnes for being selected as a member of the Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA) Hall of Honor.

The Hall of Honor is the highest recognition given to those individuals who make a significant contribution to Atlantic Indoor Association, and who have in some way influenced the course of AIA history. Their contribution may be made through leadership, adjudication or instruction. Regardless of the vessel of their work, these people represent dedication, determination and a commitment to serving others through promoting education in the performing arts.

It is with great joy that Mr. and Mrs. Alby Rose announce the arrival of their daughter and newest addition the Gold Family, Mariah Dianne Rose, into the world. Mariah was born at 5:45PM CST and weighed in at 7lbs 13oz and 19 inches long. Heather and Mariah are doing just fine and it is reported that Daddy has never been happier !

Alby Rose is a veteran of Carolina Gold, having served as Drum Major in the 2002 season. We wish Mariah, Heather and Alby all the best and we share in the happiness of the beautiful new life they have created ! All our love is with your new family.

Al ('02 - '05) and Theresa Dew are pleased to announce the arrival of Ella Radford Dew Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 8:21 pm.  Ella is 22 inches long and weighed in at an astounding 9 pounds 11 onces!

Ella arrived on her due date, which leads us to believe that she did, in fact, get her mom's promptness, but the labor was 23 hours long, which also makes us think that she got Al's temperment and took her sweet time entering the world.

The whole family is scheduled to be discharged Wednesday afternoon and, hopefully, we will get pictures posted in the next few days!  Theresa and Al would like to thank all for all the love and support during their pregnancy. They are look forward to having everyone meet Ella in person!

Brenda
and Jon “Giff” Gifford are no strangers to the Gold family. Giff came to us in 2002 and Brenda in 2003. Giff has been a soprano soloist ofCarolina Gold since the 2003 season and a staff member through out his tenure. Brenda participated in the color guard and has served on the administrative staff for the 2007 as secretary. In 2004, both marched with East Coast Jazz Drum and Bugle Corps in MA. Giff was a featured soloist there as well. They were also the first marriage with in the corps. They were wed in March of 2005 with Dana Harmon, the Wolf family, the Hoyt family, the Baker family and Patrik Waholz in attendance. After their sabbatical with East Coast Jazz, they returned and have been here since. Giff is currently on staff with the Rochester Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps from Rochester, NY. Both are still involved with corps through support and participation. Brenda currently teaches 3rd grade in Greenville, NC and Giff is finishing a degree in music education at East Carolina University.

Katie Garrett ('04, '05 Guard, '05 Board of Directors) was married on 9 February 2007 in a private ceremony at her new home in Virginia. Now that winterguard has ended for the year, she and her husband, Don, will entertain friends at a reception at their home this summer.

Ryan Gillis ('04, '05, '06 Bass Line) has the complete package. He was married March 10th to his fiancé, Tinisha, and this past fall, the couple welcomed their beautiful son, Aidan, into the world. Come see Ryan on the GoldRush bass line this season, and don't be shy about asking the proud daddy for pictures!

Cameron Baker ('04 tech, '05 mello) and Jessica Wheeler ('05, '06 Mello) (left) were married at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens on April 7th amid flowers of purple and gold. An ensemble of Cam's students performed the music for the ceremony and for part of the reception. Dwayne Barnes ('02, '03, Brass, '04 Brass, '04-'05 Executive Director, '06 Guard) stood as a groomsman.

Matt "Bucs" Franks ('05 Bari) married Brynn Shearer on March 17th...which happened to be the 3 year anniversary of their relationship! The couple moved to NC for employment opportunities a couple years ago, but returned to their home state of Pennsylvania for the ceremony and to celebrate with family. It'll be easy to point Matt out when you come watch GoldRush...he's the guy walking on Cloud 9.

Alby Rose ('02, '03 Drum Major) married Heather Baker (right) in a Catholic Mass service on April 14th. Alby took the plunge two years ago when he moved to Texas to be with Heather, and they were engaged in January 2006. The couple returned "home" to NC for the wedding as many family and friends attended to help in the celebration.

Congrats to Mike Kachman ('01 Bass Line...the WHOLE line, '02, '03 Bass Line & Director, '05 Contra, '06 Contra & Director) and Lynda Kachman ('03, '04 Guard & '06 Guard Caption) on their expected addition. Mike will be truly out numbered as they welcome another Guard member ...er...Girl into the family (Guard if Lynda has any say).
