Colin Fernandez

Alchemy Independent Tenor Tech

Colin Fernandez is a freelance Percussion Specialist living in Raleigh, North Carolina. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Management and Marketing with a focus in Entrepreneurship from Appalachian State University. While at ASU, he performed with various ensembles including the ASU Percussion Ensemble, the ASU Tabla Ensemble, the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra as Principal Timpanist, the Appalachian Wind Ensemble as Principal Percussionist, and the Marching Mountaineers as Drum Captain. While with the Symphony Orchestra, Colin had the privilege of performing with the legendary progressive rock band, Kansas, and performing with the Fudan University Orchestra in Shanghai, China.

 

Colin has had the opportunity to be a performing member with Matrix Indoor Percussion Ensemble in 2012, the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps in 2010 and 2011 where he served as a section leader, and Constitution Percussion in 2007 and 2008. 

 

After graduating, Colin continued in the marching arts as an educator working with Palmetto Percussion in WGI World Class, Alchemy Independent Percussion and Wake Forest Independent in WGI Open Class, Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps in DCA, and the Cary High School BOA and PSO programs. Colin’s students have continued to achieve success in many college programs, world class DCI, and world class WGI programs.

 

Colin was honored to learn from the great teachers who have influenced him in: Dr. Rob Falvo, Dr. Shawn Roberts, Dr. Omar Carmenates, Dr. Luis Rivera, Dr. Dennis Carty, Dr. Ellis Hampton, Matt Savage, Steven Burke (B.A. & M.M. Juilliard), Brian Lange, and Dexter Horton. 

 

Colin currently serves as the Arranger and Director of Percussion for Athletic Bands at Duke University. He continues to teach at Alchemy and Carolina Gold, consult with local percussion programs, repair instruments, compose for percussion, and teach privately. Colin has been an active member of the Percussive Arts Society since 2002.
