Kelly Medlin

Midas Winds Movement Specialist

Kelly is a Raleigh native, and she currently resides in Norfolk, VA where she is a freelance color guard instructor and movement specialist. She is the colorguard instructor and choreographer for the Old Dominion University Monarch Marching Band located in Norfolk, as well as the director of the color guard at Kellam High School in Virginia Beach. She is also an instructor and movement choreographer for Green Hope High School in Cary, North Carolina.


Before joining color guard in high school Kelly studied dance for 12 years, primarily at Alicia’s School of Performing Arts. She has formal dance training in many styles including jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, clogging, hip-hop, and musical theatre. Kelly attended West Johnston High School located in Benson, NC where she was a member of the 2010 Scholastic Open Class World Champion guard, and 2011 Scholastic World Class World Championships finalist guard. She traveled to Orlando, FL in 2010 with the WJHS marching band where they performed in the televised Walt Disney World Christmas Parade. She went on to attend North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC for Applied Mathematics. In the summer of 2014 she was a member of the Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps color guard and in 2016 she spun with First Flight World Independent winter guard. In the summer of 2017 she marched her age-out as a phantomette with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. She has received formal dance training from many people including Michael Rosales, Kelly Mitchell Hutson, Jennifer House Henshaw, Angela Brickhouse, and Alicia Howell.


She has instructed and choreographed for three Scholastic Open Class World Championships Finalist guards, a Scholastic A class finalist guard, the 2016 Scholastic Open Class Winds World Champion, and the 2017 Scholastic World Class Silver Medalists and visual caption winners, Cleveland High School Winds. She has also instructed several groups around NC and TX including Cape Fear High School, Cleveland High School Performance Ensemble Varsity and JV guards, Fike High School, and McKinney Boyd High School.


After she began her journey with Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps as a marching member, she instructed the color guard in the summer of 2015 as well as becoming the movement specialist/choreographer for Midas Winds in the winter of 2017. She is exciting to continue working with Midas during the 2018 season.
