Michael Krier

Midas Winds Saxophone / Visual Technician

Michael Krier is in his fourth year as Directors of Bands at North Garner Middle School. He has maintained the standard of excellence and community involvement of his groups through community perfomances and excellent ratings at MPA. Mr. Krier comes to NGMS from Carroll Middle School where he developed the Band and Orchestra Programs. During his time at Carroll he had several students participate in All County, All District, and TYSO. The Orchestra also recieved a rating of Excellent at MPA. Before Carroll Mr. Krier was the Director of Bands at Coats Erwin Middle School in Dunn, NC. While at CEMS he maintained a standard of excellence receiving Excellent and Superior ratings at MPA (Music Performance Assessment) along with numerous students participating in All County and All District Honors Bands.

Outside of teaching at North Garner Mr. Krier is a Drill Writer and Visual Instructor for many local high schools in the Triangle Area. Currently he works with Fuquay-Varina Marching Bengals as their woodwind and visual instructor. He currently writes drill for Garner, East Wake and West Stokes High Schools. Other Groups he has worked for include Sanderson, Millbrook, Clinton, and Triton High School. Mr. Krier is Auditions Chair for the Wake County Honors Band Auditions along with Clinic Chair for the Central District Honors Band. He is also active in the North Carolina Band Masters Association and has served as one of the six state representatives on the Marching Band Committee and now serves as the Middle School Rep for the Music Performance Assessment Committee.

Mr. Krier Received Bachelors from Appalachian State University where he studied Saxophone and Clarinet under Dr. William Gora and Dr. Scott Kalestad. While at Appalachian he served as the Rehearsal Assistant for two years with the Marching Mountaineers under Dr. Scott Tobias. He also was principal saxophonist in ASU Wind Ensemble, ASU Jazz Ensemble I & II, and Symphonic Band. Mr. Krier is currently a member of NAfME - National Association of Music Education and NCMEA - North Carolina Music Education Association.

Mr. Krier continues his love of music in the community by performing with his church choir, hand bell choir, and playing a multitude of instruments for worship services.
