Kennith Watts Jr

A1 Sound Engineer / Media Director

Kennith Watts, Jr. completed his Bachelors of Arts in General Music at the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a Double Concentration in Recording Technology and Trombone Performance. As a performer, Kennith completed 5 seasons with Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps. Kennith is currently an Assistant Director for Alchemy Independent Percussion Ensemble is the Media Advisor and Sound Engineer for both Alchemy and Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps.

Kennith's passion for music is only matched with his passion for teaching and music arranging. He has many years of experience of working with high school band programs as an instructor for conducting, brass, percussion, and visual. He is primarily on staff at E. A. Laney High School in Wilmington, NC., where he works as the Lead Designer, Percussion Supervisor, and Staff Coordinator. Along with working with that program, Kennith has worked as an instructor, arranger, and consultant for many high schools throughout North and South Carolina.

Technology of sound is where those two passions meet and Kennith excels with his knowledge of that as well. Kennith worked under Steve Bailey (Berklee School of Music) in 2010, and took over as the UNCW Event Recording Manager in 2012, in which he helped to develop the applied music technology track for the Department of Music. He then moved to UNCW's Kenan Auditorium as an A2 Audio Engineer in 2016. Due to his excellent work and growth there, in 2019 he was hired at Wilmington Technicians Foundry and CFCC's The Wilson Center while remaining at Kenan Auditorium. These new crews actively work with nationally touring, headlining artists on a regular basis, and Kennith uses his skills to enhance their audio teams.

Kennith believes that leadership through inspiration makes for a one-of-a-kind experience for every member that you come in contact with and will completely enhance the performance of everyone involved. You can never underestimate the power of believing in each and every member of your group and empowering them to succeed, on and off the field.
