Josiah Owen

Josiah “Screech” Owen got his musical start playing cymbals with the Parkland High School Mustangs, where his curiosity for experimental percussion first took shape. Fascinated by unique sounds and textures, he developed an early interest in foley artistry and sound design.

Josiah earned the nickname “Screech” while performing in the front ensemble for Tarheel Sun based in Cary, NC. During his four years with the ensemble (1997–2000), he played auxiliary percussion and explored unconventional instruments such as bird whistles, water crotales, and hand drums to express his musical creativity.

In 2001, Josiah chose to age out with The Crossmen, marching in the cymbal line. Following his age-out season, he continued contributing to the corps, working on and later managing the food truck from 2002–2004. During this time, he also performed with the indoor drumline Progressive Percussion Ensemble.

After eight years of performing and traveling, Josiah shifted his creative focus to film and photography, studying both at East Carolina University.

Over the years, he has supported countless schools and percussion programs, sharing his experience and passion for the marching arts. Today, Josiah performs in Carolina Gold’s front ensemble and brings his creativity and resourcefulness to the organization’s fundraising efforts
